Engineering Approach

Blowdown valve Cv was validated against API 521 requirements, with minimum vessel wall temperatures during depressurisation confirmed above the material impact test temperature for the specified grade of carbon steel.

The time-varying flare load profile was assessed to confirm adequacy of the existing flare stack capacity under the blowdown scenario, with backup hand calculations supporting each result.
